Our family of 4 has stayed on Phillips Lake in the past and it's a beautiful spot! We stayed in a similar camp - small and rustic and we appreciate the charm of old camps. That said, this home is in need of some updating. We left after one day (giving up 7 days rental), opting to rent the place next door for below reasons. The owner will of course dispute all of these comments and we didn't leave on great terms so renters I suggest reading all reviews.
1. There was a strong odor of mildew and wet dog smell that we could not eliminate even with opening the windows and doors. Note another review further down that mentioned similar complaint.
2. The cushions on the wicker furniture were nearly void of filling. We relayed this to the owner and he said he has since fixed this problem.
3. The carpets were all damp making it uncomfortable to walk around. Owner said this was due to carpet cleaning that hadn't dried.
4. Window screens were loaded with cobwebs and bugs and seemingly hadn't been cleaned in months.
5. The bed sheets, while hopefully laundered, were stained in many places. And the pillows are old and yellowed.
I think all of the above could have been manageable were it not for the smell.
I have stayed in more than 30 rentals like this, and this is the first time we have had such an experience so I don't write this lightly.
That said, Greg is communicative and helpful host and he responded to our feedback on his property in a gracious manner.
