There was SO MUCH to like about this property! But unfortunately--for us--the negatives definitely affected our special weekend away.
PROS:
Beautiful cabin with modern and quaint decor, a beautiful patio, cosy and comfy furniture, a wood fireplace, modern washer & dryer, a well-stocked coffee machine, and a very thoughtful host who left us a bottle of wine and a card for when we arrived!
CONS: (and they're relatively significant!)
So we feel pretty misled when it came to the listing on VRBO. Just copying words from the description, the title says: "Quiet & Romantic Cabin Getaway on McKenzie River!" with descriptors like "falling asleep to the soothing sounds of rushing water" and "The romantic atmosphere you are seeking is created by the secluded natural setting of the cabin" and "No matter what room you decide to sleep in, you'll be surrounded by the soothing silence of your secluded getaway." This gives off the impression that the cabin will be very quiet and relaxing.
What ANY of the description fails to mention is the TWO LANE HIGHWAY that's right on the other side of the river! All day long the "serene silence" was interrupted by logging trucks going up the incline, loud motorcycle groups, RVs and and off-road Jeeps roaring by. Even early on a Sunday morning when we sat outside, the constant sounds of traffic prevented us from ever truly unwinding. I, personally, felt like I paid a premium only to be reminded of the city traffic we were so desperately trying to escape. Nowhere in the description does it indicate the presence of a loud main highway near the cabin--and justly so as it would have definitely affected our decision to stay there!
Another big downside is that none of the windows have curtains. So the big windows overlooking the river, the bedroom, and even the bathrooms don't have any privacy curtains whatsoever. So if you, a romantically inclined couple, want to enjoy your solitude together, best stay away from one of the bedrooms where you can see rafters going down the river from the vantage point of your bed or wait till night.
Finally, if you intend to do a good bit of cooking, you may want to bring things like measuring cups/spoons, baking sheets, and a knife set (all their knives there are oddly serrated) and there's no A/C, but those are small complaints.
Curtains and Kitchen can be fixed. But the highway is a big deal breaker for us. :(
