My wife and I were booked in to Stable Cottage in Somerset for 3 nights commencing Tuesday 18th September but unfortunately the property was really not suitable for us or any elderly people especially around the 70 year old mark or someone that has bad knee joints. The website shows 19 photos, 16 of them giving views of the garden, the outside view of the cottage or the coast and local places to visit but their were only 3 photos of the inside of the property. These are the living room, kitchen and a bedroom.
The description does state a central staircase but the staircase was open backed, quite steep, not much of a handrail and uncarpeted, like I say this would not be a problem for younger people but older ones would definitely struggle. Therefore a photo of the stairs would be great or even an advisory note to say the property may not be suitable for the elderly. Another problem we noted was the sofas were very low which is again not suitable for older people that have joint problems. In the bathroom their was not really a place to stand toiletries, their was a glass shelf above the wash sink but it didn't look too safe. It was a nice touch for our arrival with some food. milk, bread etc. and the property was clean but I really think that some indication that it may not suit elderly people would be useful for anybody thinking of staying there.
We had booked for a 3 night stay but had to leave after one night as we felt the staircase was just too dangerous for someone of the age of 70 plus with bad knee joints. If it was just a normal staircase, carpeted and with a handrail we would probably been able to manage it.
