Interesting historical log cabin, built out with extra rooms, on the banks of the James River. Sadly, the experience wasn’t as wonderful as the listing. With a little bit of work, this could be a 5-star property.
1. We were so excited to be able to relax while watching the lazy river flow by. Unfortunately, there was a very steep drop off from the backyard to the river bank with no way to safely get down to the bank. Additionally, the weeds were so high at the top of the drop off, we couldn’t even see the river.
2. The upstairs bed was pushed tight against the wall, so one person would have to climb over the other to get into or out of bed. We opted to sleep downstairs for access on both sides of the bed. Unfortunately, the basement is home to many spiders. Unnerving to find them in the drawers, closet, and every corner. Please, at least sweep the cobwebs and dead insects from the corners.
3. We found the oven didn’t heat on our first day. I spoke with the owner and she was expecting a replacement part that day or the next. She agreed to text me when the part came, but I didn’t hear back for the remainder of our 5-day stay.
4. Use caution on the basement stairs. They’re fashioned in somewhat of a u-turn. The lower stairs are much shallower with a section cut out of the top tread. I slid down the stairs and injured both feet and my shoulder.
Other than that, It’s a really cute place! And kudos for having a Brita pitcher in the fridge. Very appreciated!
