My boyfriend and I rented this property for Labor Day weekend and the following week because we thought it would be perfect for just the 2 of us. We only ended up staying 1 night. The check in process was very smooth with Harbor Rentals. When we pulled up to the property, we were greeted by Vicki, one of the owners of this property who showed us the way into the house and was very welcoming. I believe what they did was make a little studio apartment out of about half of their garage for families and couples visiting Chincoteague. We were expecting it to be a bit larger but we were willing to make it work! You do NOT get the entire building pictured in the photos when you rent it which was very misleading. We settled in and then went to go get some drinks for the week. Once winding down for bed, we started to notice roaches wandering around the kitchen counter/sink and bathroom. We placed all of our belongings on tables overnight so no roaches would get into our stuff and just went to sleep very panicky that night. We were living in someone’s garage for the week so we weren’t worried about seeing some bugs here and there. But we ended up killing over a dozen roaches in just the 1 night we stayed here. As soon as we rested up, we called the emergency number provided by the rental company the next day because we absolutely could not stay in a rental with a roach infestation. Sandy from Harbor Rentals contacted the owners (who I believe gave us a full refund except for the 1 night we stayed in the Shorebird), and Sandy helped us find a new rental last minute for the week which turned out to be the cutest, most perfect townhouse. Of course we had to put out more money for this relocation though. We ended up having a great week on vacation but lost an entire day to relocating rentals due to the roach issue. On top of that, we were also told that the owners were aware of the roach problem and had thought it was taken care of so they continued to rent it out. Now, ASIDE from the roaches, the Shorebird was very clean. But would we stay there again? No. Would we recommend others stay there? No, not really. We don’t think any one should have to experience missing an entire day of vacation due to anything like this. Bottom line, the Shorebird has a roach infestation and the property photos are misleading. Just keep an eye out if you rent this property in the future. We were grateful to receive a refund and we were happy we didn’t have to leave Chincoteague.
