Beware of rodents!
We had to leave the property early because of the mice problem. For three nights in a row, we witnessed mice running around the kitchen. The owner called an exterminator and the exterminator told me there were openings on the side of the house where he could see smudge marks from multiple rodents entering the home. The owners did not follow recommendations to seal the openings. The house smelled so bad we had to close off one of the rooms; exterminator confirmed it was definitely the smell of decaying rodents but couldn’t find the source (likely behind the walls). Eventually, the owners agreed to give me a partial refund and I left a few weeks early to finish our visit in a hotel. The refund amount wasn’t fair in my opinion given the experience but I just couldn’t wait to get out of there. I was worried we would become ill from the conditions. A couple of times there were scratching noises from within the walls so loud we had to leave the house. I am still working with VRBO to try to get a portion of their fee back. The owners didn’t respond to my request for an additional refund.
