However the email that arrived just prior to check-in that advised the use of earplugs to block the sound of traffic and trains…well it was good advice, but arrived a little too late. "We had a great stay at the Kakanui Cube. The house is well-designed, modern, clean, with all the amenities you need (laundry, sharp knives, comfortable bed, plenty of space). We slept so well with the sea air nearby, and woke up early each morning to catch the magnificent sunrises. Equally enjoyable are the sunsets — the way Kakanui is situated you can enjoy both over the ocean. The house is in a rural area so WiFi bandwidth can be an issue — it may not be practical to expect to be on zoom calls...

"Comfortable and spacious, close to the town centre and facilities such as Countdown and restaurants. Was sent the address after we had started our trip and had to chase the manager for it. Apparently there was a glitch in the system. Perhaps because the bathroom is new, (with a great tub!), there weren't any towel rails or a shower basket/shelves (found a broken one under the sink)."

"We enjoyed our stay at The Old Confectionary Apartment. Access and communications were excellent, and we found everything as advertised. It was clean and comfortable, with extra blankets and good heat for the cold night. Plenty of hot water. I do think the bedspreads are a little dated, almost like they came out of grandma's trunk. But that's not necessarily a negative. A wonderful stay in a great location."
