Winter Stay at the Cabin
Excellent stay. Warm cabin and hot sauna. Great winter hiking. Frozen lake. Stars at night. Complete silence. Great host. Highly recommend!

Wonderful off grid experience
We parked next to Gary’s garage and he brought all our gear out to the cabin on an ATV. It was about a 10 minute walk to get out there. The cabin was clean, warm, and had all the kitchen and cooking utensils we needed, including a fridge/freezer and a full oven/range. He provided paper towels, dish rags, dish soap, lots of water, salt, and pepper. There is an outhouse, and no running water, but the sink has a bucket under it so you can still wash dishes. The outhouse was pleasant and clean, especially with the piece of insulation he gave us to sit on… Very clever and useful! We did not bring any bedding, and that was a mistake! Make sure you bring pillows and a couple blankets. The bed had a fitted sheet and one thin quilt, so we kept it warm with the wood stove all night and managed but it would’ve been better with more bedding. The sauna was a highlight - takes about an hour to warm up, and it was amazing and rejuvenating. I opted not to heat up the water for bathing because I wanted the cold water, but he does have a camp stove out there to warm up your bathing water as well. We also took lots of walks out on the lake and around the “island,” and the dog absolutely loved it. Such a beautiful place. The stars were unbelievable as well, though we didn’t get any Aurora. Maybe next time. We will definitely be back! Thanks again, Gary!

Beautiful Adventure
Nate, our Dog Layla and I were overjoyed with how beautiful this little cabin in the woods was!! The walk to the cabin is absolutely beautiful. We are planning on making it back in the spring! Gary was so wonderful and very helpful!! Thank you so much!

Lovely cabin offering quiet seclusion
The cabin stay was sublime. Gary helped us get our things to and from the property, showed us what we needed to know, and aside from a meeting on the water in the provided canoe, that was the last we saw of him. We were looking for quiet solitude and that's what we received. Highly recommend visiting but check the mosquito forecast. Being anywhere besides the water or inside the cabin was fraught. All said it was a beautiful cabin in magical place with a gracious host.

Beautiful secluded cabin
The cabins are well maintained in a beautiful location. All the basic tools you need are already in the kitchen and the host provided water for washing dishes etc. The lake was really quiet when we were there, perfect for canoeing.

Beautiful winter retreat
This is the second time I've stayed here, both times in the winter, and it's a perfect getaway. Long walks during the day along dogsled trails on a large yet minimally trafficked lake, followed by deeply relaxing saunas and reading by the fire in the evening. C'mon. The hosts are wonderful, as well, helpful and communicative. I'll undoubtedly visit again.

Fantastic Stay!
This was our second time staying at Big Pine Cabin. It's a magical forest. We had a beautiful evening canoe ride with swimming beavers. We are looking forward to our next visit.

Great solitude
Enjoyed my stay. Had a great time of solitude where the most prominent noise was the wind and squirrels. Had to wash pots and pans before using. Otherwise things were great.

Peaceful, Quiet, Secluded Time Away
It was unfortunate we could not have campfires or use the sauna due to the fire danger, but we still got the most of our experience, enjoying some time away in the seclusion. It was quiet and peaceful. The lake was nice and we even caught a few fish! Gary was great to work with and flexible with our check-in/check-out times.

Roughing it elegantly!
This sweet little cabin sits high on a huge piece of granite. While sitting on the wrap around deck perched up in the treetops it give a a feeling of being in a treehouse! We enjoyed looking down on the forest floor watching the birds and red squirrels foraging about. Also getting out on the the lake with one of the canoes provided made for another special day of adventure.

Cozy Cabin in the woods
We enjoyed a long weekend at this off-the-grid cabin. Even with negative 40 degree weather, the cabin was toasty with the wood stove. The birds that came to the feeder were great fun to watch over a pancake breakfast. Several were Canadian species not common to the southern part of the state (Pine Grossbeak, Gray Jay). Even deer could be seen from the cabin windows as they meandered through. Wonderful location, very relaxing!

Very Relaxing
We had a blast here. We brought our dogs and the owner took great care of us. It had just snowed and he made sure the trail was flat and where we could find it. He also went above and beyond for us. Highly recommend!!!

Fall paddling
We enjoyed our week at Big Pine cabin. The cabin was simple yet comfortable. The wood stove, the bath house, the wrap around porch and the efficient kitchen provided the background for relaxing with our books and paddling amidst the fall colors. Wonderful place to recharge!

Sublime Seclusion
It is very basic living. Only wood stove for heat. Gas for stove, fridge, and lights. We loved it! 45 minute canoe ride (10 mins by motor) and 10 minute hike up to the cabin. Gear is transported for you. Now we have new plans for retirement!

Fabulous rustic getaway
My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Big Pine cabin. Gary was helpful and accurate in explaining the setting of the cabin and the logistics for getting in and out. It was everything you need for a relaxing recharge in the wilderness with the basic, comfortable necessities. Can't wait to get back!

Summer Retreat
This cabin was absolutely amazing. Gary, was more than helpful and overall a great guy. After bringing both me and my boyfriend from the landing across the lake to the dock, he brought all of our stuff from the dock to the cabin. Ensured we had everything we needed and tons of tips for fishing, swimming and everything else we needed to know for a great trip. The cabin was perfect, stayed cool even without electricity and even though we brought water we were lucky he stocked us up with enough water to even make a makeshift shower. Canoes were clean and sturdy, and had tons of life jackets and paddles. Lots of places to explore and still have a perfect “cabin life” feel. Highly recommended, it’s the trip of a life time! Thank you Gary!
