We opened the front door to a sign asking us to please remove our shoes to keep the carpet as clean as possible. So I did and right away felt chunks of dirt under my feet. It was apparent no vacuum was used on these floors before we arrived.
The floor in the bathroom and kitchen had dirt and dead bugs along the corners and edges of the wall and floor. The center of the room might have been swept before we arrived, but definitely not the perimeter.
We ran to Walmart and bought disinfecting wipes and processed to wipe down all the counter tops, the stove, the refrigerator, as well as the sinks in the kitchen and bathroom, and the floors.
We expected to eat most meals in the apartment, but we could only find 3 different sizes of fry pans and 1 small pot to cook with, we changed our plans, but we knew we would eat breakfast in the place, so we washed the dishes we thought we would use for those meals and planned accordingly.
The bathroom door had a difficult time closing because the top corner needed to be trimmed off or maybe the hinges tighten. But we figured if we pulled the door shut with the doorknob, it would catch. After pulling it shut that way a few times the door handle on the inside of the bathroom broke off. If we pulled it completely tight, we could potentially lock ourselves in the bathroom, so we stuffed the catch that latches the door when shut with aluminum foil and pulled it shut with the clothes hook on the door for the remainder of our stay.
