Great location
The home worked well for our needs except for the walkway to the dock which is extremely dangerous. There is no safe way to get to the dock unfortunately, which is one reason to rent this home.

Marcia's Mercer Lake "Chalet?"
1st) Upon arrival found trash strewn across parking space. Had to clean that up. 2nd) Upon entry, knew immediately the place was filthy. If anything was cleaned it would have been the counter tops and stove but, I'm not fully confident in that. 3rd) Upon inspection, found the fluorescent lighting in both the kitchen and bathroom are in need or replacement. 4th) The electrical outlet by the sliding glass door needs replacement. 5th) The window coverings are filthy and in need of repair/replacement 6th) The window covering for the sliding glass door is missing slats and does not have a pull or closure arm. 7th) There is black soot on the face of the fireplace and up the wall 8th) There was ash in several places on the hearth 9th) The TV stand was covered with dust 10th) There was animal hair everywhere. When I vacuumed the floor and moved the furniture to vacuum under there, I found quite a bit of animal hair 11th) The vacuum "cleaner" is missing a wheel making it inefficient 12th) There was dog kibble in the sill pan of the water heater and the water heater closet is filthy 13th) The vinyl surrounding the step to the bathtub is peeling off on the shower side 14th) The back deck has several planks that feel as though they are ready to give way at anytime. Dangerous! 15th) The path to the dock is treacherous and not mentioned in the listing as being inaccessible for handicap persons 16th) The dock with the park bench on it is nearing collapse 17th) The dock is in disrepair 18th) The stairs to the dock are so badly disintegrated that they are exceedingly dangerous to use Overall, this location should not be offered for rent in its present state and I am very displeased that I paid a premium for something so run down and dirty. This is not that caliber of I have come to expect of Vacasa and I did expect better. I am, therefore, requesting full reimbursement of the cleaning and booking fees I was charged for this property. Needs work on dishwasher, kitchen counter, deck rails, & trail . Super quite, the best view of the lake. Very relaxing. We loved it and we will book again.

Neighborhood and view fantastic. House was disappointing
House square footage misleading and inaccurate. Listed at 1590 sq foot. Actual is less than 1000. Pathway to dock is treacherous and needs to be rebuilt. Half the lights in house inoperative. Dishwasher needs to be reset and stabilized. Exterior of windows dirty and cobwebbed. Overall property is tired and not well attended for the price of the rental.

2 stars just for the lake
The property is extremely rundown and neglected. We found multiple issues upon our arrival. For some reason, the back door screen was detached and just sitting outside on the ground. Some of the blinds were damaged/missing. There were several feces/urine stains on the carpet upstairs. Some of the lights did not work (both inside and outside). Also, a more secure trash bin is recommended, as the bin outside was dragged at night by a large animal (presumably a bear). Luckily, out car did not get damaged as a result of it. I am giving 2 starts for the lake which we enjoyed. Thank you.

Great Location
My husband and I (and our dogs) had a very relaxing stay on Mercer Lake. It's in a great location just a short drive to the Ocean Dunes Golf Course and the South Jetty area of the Oregon Dunes, and withing walking distance to the the Darlingtonia Natural Site. There are amazing lake views out of every window in the house. The kitchen is well-equipped and the neighborhood is quiet and safe. Update to earlier reviews -- there's now a newer television with streaming services. One of the futons has been replaced with a couch. The house still needs a few minor repairs, but overall it's very comfortable and suited our needs perfectly.

The beautiful lakeside setting and nearness to the coast made for a relaxing and restful retreat for us. The wood fireplace was thoroughly enjoyed after a day walking the coastline!

Awesome little get away spot!
Super private, airy and spacious. Tub is nice with a blend of vintage and modern throughout. Tons of windows for natural light even though it’s surrounded by trees. Can see the water from the bed and had lots of lighting and cool layout. Not really capable of sleeping more then 2. Unless a futon is ok for you. But lots of places to sit and get cozy. Heating is nice. Wish it came with access to the kayaks. Enjoyed the dock and trials down to it . The floors need some work. Overall very nice stay!

Cozy and private.
It was exactly what they advertised. Be very careful getting to the dock, no handrails or level trail. Other than that it was an adorable cabin in the woods. Easy access to Florence and Yachats.

Cat urine smell everywhere, and stairs to dock unsafe and not to code.
We lives the location, but an overwhelming cat smell when you walk in. The step to the dock is sketchy. I would never have a senior or child fo down there. We took pictures as they are not to code. We were dissapointed 😔

Serious repairs needed to be safe
Owner had responded to previous reviewer's concerned about safety of dock and deck. Owner represented that things were being addressed. I have seen this before on other rentals and always, the owner had addressed the concerns. As of 8/17/2020 no repairs have been made and access to the dock and the actual viewing deck should not be used. This house sits on the lake so the viewing deck (pictures in the ad) and the dock to water are the primary attractions. Gaps on banister of viewing deck are way larger than code would require for safety - a child, pet or even a small adult could easily fall through to a good 20' drop. Steps to dock are dangerous and there is a unacceptable gap to get from wobbly steps to platform leading to dock. House countertops are broken and/or not attached. Cookware is definitely less than adequate. NO SMOKE ALARM! Wall above fireplace shows smoke damage which could demonstrate a lack of proper chimney cleaning and could be dangerous. Banister on front steps is broken. I will be contacting Lane County Building Safety regarding code enforcement of these issues on a rental. VRBO should be screening the properties they allow under their listings when they see negative complaints.

Nice lake access.
Walking up the front steps give you a good idea of the property. They are kinda rustic, not all even, and the hand rail is wobly. The little walk down to the dock should probably not be done by someone with balance issues. Also, the ladder out of the water was broken making not super easy to get out of the water. Though all in all, for my little family wife and 4 kids it was a great stay.

Small quiet lake cabin
The cabin was built in the 30’s and they made some updates in the 80’s. The place appears smaller than the posted 1600 sq ft. It feels more like 1000 sq ft. The advertised price per night is appropriate for the rental market but the taxes and excessive fees made the cabin overpriced. When we arrived we took the path down to the water. There are big gaps between the steps and there is not a hand rail. After navigating the trail and steps several times I told my family (husband and 2 boys ages 10 and 13) they were not allowed to go down to the water at night. Even with a flashlight, I would not recommend it. After dark we played board games ond had family movie nights on our laptop. Our laptop has a bigger screen than both TVs in the cabin. The TVs are old and one has a built in VCR. We packed our Roku but the TVs are not compatible. The bed upstairs is really soft and I’m not sure it is a queen size... it looks more like a full size bed. There is one bathroom in the house on the main floor. I had to use my cell phone flashlight to go downstairs in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. The wood floor and stairs creak and it is extremely loud. It is impossible not to wake the entire house. After several sleepless nights I ended up sleeping on one of the futons downstairs... it was easier to use the bathroom and the bed upstairs was too small for my husband and I. The cabin has some kitchen items but did not have a cookie sheet. I drove to Fred Meyer to purchase a cookie sheet in order to cook French fries with our grilled burgers. I also purchased more toilet paper. We discovered the house did not have any cleaning products when we were cleaning up after dinner. Thankfully I packed Lysol disinfectant wipes that we used to clean the kitchen counters. We have a kayak and paddle board and we enjoyed exploring the lake. We also rented sand boards and spent a few hours on the dunes. There is a hike up to the lighthouse that I highly recommend. Lake Mercer Resort is about a block away from the house and we rented jet skies. They also have boats you can rent. Overall we had a good time and it was nice to get away.

Great location but house/property needs serious TLC
We loved being so near Mercer Lake. However, many things inside and outside need replacement or repair. The path down to the dock was precarious. The front porch steps were not level. The steps leading to the dock were not in good condition and precarious. The ladder from the water onto the dock was rusty and wobbly. Inside the house, there were several creaky and loose floorboards and the futons are very old with not very comfortable mattresses. Overall, it was not unclean but just did not feel very well maintained.

This was really nice for a couple or small family. Caught a trout! Too bad there were no kayaks or paddleboards to use, had to rent from the resort next door, but the house was comfortable with lake access.

Not listed properly, this is a fisherman cabin at best.
If it wasn't for the comfy bed,good heat and hot water I would be giving no stars. We cook when we rent a property like this other wise we would just get a hotel room. The pots and pans were atrocious!! I wouldn't even donate them to goodwill. Utensils were outdated and seemed dirty. Spices old,no foil,no where to store leftovers or cover them if they were on a plate or bowl. Dish washer door broken. No clocks?? We have stayed in many vrbos,but seems that the ones that are managed by vascas have been horrible. Will never stay in a vascas property again. This was a cute place but needs alot of TLC. The boat dock was a nice feature but very difficult to navigate to get to it ,especially when wet.ok its Oregon its going to be wet alot. As you see not happy at all. Like I said earlier if it wasn't for the nice tub which was updated. Lots of hot water, and fireplace (of course there was no wood provided), And the comfy bed, we would have found other accommodations. I hope this ends up on the ones email so they can address it.
