We booked last minute and this was the cheapest option out of four properties on VRBO. We chose this property because it looked decent in the photos and we need it to be close to town. Upon arrival it was dark and it was difficult to figure out where we should park and such. We circled the block a couple of times but we finally figured it out. There was barely any description of the property in the online listing. It is listed as a cottage which makes it sound like it is a single building but it is actually a historic home that is divided into four small studio apartments. When we finally entered where we were going to be staying we were pleasantly surprised and satisfied with what we had chosen from the online listing that barely had a description. The suggestions we have are, including a sink in the bathroom for things such as brushing your teeth shaving your face washing your face washing your hands after using the bathroom, we did not feel comfortable doing those things in the kitchen sink where things such as clean dishes and food prep was happening. We decided that doing those things in the shower would just have to do. Also, we did not understand why the microwave was on the floor. There was plenty of counter space in which the microwave could have been placed or a mounted microwave could have been better, A suggestion may be placing the microwave on the counter and placing the coffee pot on top of the microwave. Although this listing says it sleeps three it does not sleep three comfortably. The futon couch was hard to sit on let alone sleep on. If you are planning to stay here bring an air mattress because you will probably have better sleep on that instead of the pull out futon couch. The bed slept just fine. Also, we stayed during a colder time of the year and there were instructions for turning the AC on but none for the heat option but we eventually figured it out. Also, we were staying three nights and there were no extra towels in the actual room that we were staying we had to go searching for things out in the lobby. Not a problem we just did not understand that is what we were supposed to do because yet again there were no clear instructions for that. Basically, we really enjoyed our stay in Fort Payne and add this “cottage “but would not stay again because of the inconvenience of not having a sink in the bathroom. This is a design flaw in which becomes a dealbreaker for us. We will look elsewhere for our next stay.
