We enjoyed our few days at the property. The location couldn’t be better, being close to Halifax, near a grocery/liquor store, and several local restaurants and sandy beaches close by. Check in was seamless, property was easy to find.
There were plenty of beds for the six of us (two adults, four children). The three older kids stayed in the loft, and had no problem getting up and down the ladder. Our youngest needs constant supervision, so she slept on the single bed in her own small room downstairs with us on the double bed in the master. She had no problem getting up the ladder, but couldn’t get down safely on her own.
The deck on the back is large and comes with a great view of the beach, which makes supervising the kids easy and stress-free.
We did find the property needed some updates, maintenance and a thorough clean. Several light fixtures had burnt-out bulbs or no bulbs at all. There are no curtains or blinds, so when the sun is up, so are you. Several window screens need repair, with holes large enough for flies to get in. The appliances are passable, though the kitchen faucet is in desperate need of repair (we arrived to find the sink overflowing from a running drip, but thankfully the sink allowed the water to go down a second drain and not onto the floor). The oven and dishwasher are both quite old. Lots of dishes, but lacking in cutlery and certain utensils (eg tongs). Pots and pans also lacking or in need of replacement. Used the barbecue one night, but I wouldn’t a second time - the grates are rusted completely through in the middle, which causes me to question the integrity of the gas line and burners and therefore it’s safety. Patio chairs also need to be replaced as they’ve become quite worn and barely capable of holding an adult’s weight, but indoor furniture is comfortable enough for a rustic cottage. The entire property does need a deep clean, as we found lots of dust and dirt in corners, on windowsills, and other harder to reach areas that a sweep won’t get. The floors could use a mop. Several walls also need a good scrub, particularly in the bedrooms where we found ample evidence of mosquitos having met their demise after feasting on previous guests.
Notwithstanding these issues, we all really enjoyed the property. Watching a raging thunderstorm from the loft on our final night was definitely a highlight. With the items above addressed, we’d definitely stay again.
