The property was cute, but we did not stay do to safety concerns. The property had a light and exhaust fan in the bathroom with a switch that did not work due to possible wiring issue and the washer and dryer was out of order, which we were hoping to use. Our main concern and why we checked out after checking in was the property has an out of date old Edison style screw in fuse box, which does not meet North Carolina or National Electrical Codes. This was very concerning because the property also did not have smoke detectors or a carbon monoxide detector, which is also against North Carolina rental property law. The "property details" states the property has smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector, first aid kit, and fire extinguisher, but this is not the true. The property is an old duplex that was fixed up and looks very cute, but it could be a death trap if a fire broke out in the middle of the night. Smoke Detector RequirementsVacation rental properties, including Vrbo, must provide operable smoke detectors in each rental unit at the beginning of every tenancy, as per § 42A‑31(5) / 42A‑23(5) NC General AssemblyCarbon Monoxide AlarmsNorth Carolina law also requires at least one operable carbon monoxide (CO) alarm per unit per level, especially in units with fuel-burning appliances or attached garages. CO alarms may be combined with smoke alarms only if they meet both UL standards (UL2034 for CO, UL217 for smoke) and clearly distinguish between smoke and CO alarms.
