The home is situated in the hills, approx. 30 minutes off the freeway on a windy road. The last quarter mile or so is a single-lane dirt road, but it isn't that bad. We had no trouble parking a large truck and full-size sedan on the property. There was an attached 3-car garage with one space available for additional parking.
The house was clean and fully stocked, except a few things noted below. The kitchen had plenty of cookware, some spices and oil, and a coffee maker with a few ill-fitting filters. The dishes were sufficient to serve our group of 6. A basket in the full-bath contained a bunch of random hotel-sized toiletries. There was plenty of patio furniture for our group to sit outside and enjoy.
The indoor stairs to the lower level is a narrow spiral staircase. After bringing in our baggage, we realized it would have been much easier to use the outdoor stairs – especially for the luggage.
The listing of beds is not current. One bedroom has a queen and the other a full. There is a full pull-out couch. The other couch has a trundle that might make it into another full-sized bed. Unfortunately, the trundle is broken and the couch is made of some leather-type material that is extremely uncomfortable to sleep on.
When we arrived, the dishwasher was full of dishes. We weren't sure if they were clean, so we opted to run the wash a second time, but there was no dishwasher detergent. We had to buy our own detergent to run a load of someone else's dishes. Likewise, there were no dryer sheets available for laundry.
The top-floor patio railing is loose. This was terrifying. We spent the whole trip warning others to stay clear and “don’t lean on the railing”. I think a fall from that patio could kill a person. I can’t believe the homeowners and property managers have left it as is. But, so long as everyone stayed away from the railing, we really enjoyed that patio.
The hot tub was filthy. We used it once and the smell was so bad we didn't bother to try again. This was extremely disappointing as the hot tub was one of the major factors for us in booking this property. I wouldn't have paid such a high rental fee without it.
We counted – there are 143 steps on the stairwell from the house to the beach. The stairs felt safe enough, but they are a little rickety and only one side has a handrail. It was easier to load our boat from the dock, rather than carry our things down those stairs.
