I didn't know how much I needed this getaway until I was settled into the Nest cottage. After unpacking, I discovered there was no heat coming from the "fireplace." Despite trying every switch, the "fireplace" stayed dark. It was too late to do anything and I wasn't cold, so I climbed into the large, cozy bed and fell asleep. It wasn't until waking the next morning that I realized how cold it had gotten.
I promptly sent texts and notes to the owner and property manager. Both responded with dismay and worked to troubleshoot the issue. Within a few hours, the property manager arrived with a newly assembled space heater that did the trick. They also deducted one night from my total fee, which I greatly appreciated.
The next few days were blissfully solitary with beautiful views and lots of space to wander, smell the lavender, and pick a lemon for my morning tea. With downtown Healdsburg just minutes away, good food, coffee, and groceries were readily available. One minute I could be in the traffic of the square and the next I'd be settled on the patio with nothing but the sound of leaves, wind, and birds and the vineyards stretched out before me.
The next time I need to escape sensory overload or truly wind down, I know exactly where to go to nest.
