I’m a single mom from the Chicago area with three adult kids in their 20s and 30s. All brought their mates — 1 husband, 1 girlfriend, 1 boyfriend. Plus we have 2 beloved family dogs ( a small shih tsu and a 2-year-old golden retriever.)
We all loved being together in The Artist’s House. The the bed situation is perfect - three couples had a comfy sleeping room. If you have younger kids, the basement bunk room is huge and deluxe.
There was no bathroom crunch for 7 adults — 2 full baths, one half bath.
But the BEST thing about this house: it’s nestled in nature. The big lake with the private beach is right in the front yard. The kitchen and dining room have lake views. The sound of the lake is in every room. The kids saw deer, black squirrels, loads of birds, fish.
The house is comfortable and a little funky. The decor is nice, high-quality, but not stuffy or pretentious. The living room window is amazing and made me want to immediately write a thank-you note to the host. The outside areas are wonderful— the deck with a sunset view, the grill with a lake view, the magical screened porch.
With older kids, I scheduled 3 “big outings “ ( dune ride, pontoon rental, brewery dinner) and let them do their own thing on the other days— shopping, beach time, day trips to Saugatuck. There is plenty to do in the neighborhood — cool stores, paddle boarding and kayaking. My kids has a glorious beach day where they all played in the water and reconnected.
