We had an excellent stay at the Valley View Lakehouse over the week of the 4th of July. The house is in a great location in Mayville (especially for the fireworks over the 4th) and is easy walking distance to the lake and town. The fenced in back yard was great for letting our dog out. There is also a small dog park within walking distance, but we never met another dog there.
Sarah and Dave (the hosts) were very responsive to any questions we had and went above and beyond expectations. They set up a dog crate for our dog so we didn't have to lug our own around and also left us a gift basket for our stay.
The house is well appointed and had everything we needed including various seasonings, cooking oils, etc. We cooked a couple of nights and also used the grill and the kitchen had everything we needed. It was pretty hot the week we were there and the AC units in the house did a good job of keeping us cool.
Our primary reason for visiting Mayville was the Chautauqua Institute. For those considering the rental for that purpose, we found it to be a workable arrangement. It's about a 5 minute drive to the Institute, but with parking and walking to the venues, etc., you should plan that it will take you at least 20 - 30 minutes from leaving the house before you are sitting in the Amp or other venue.
A hot tip for anyone who is a fan of pies, head over to Westfield and get a pie from Portage Pie. All of their pies are delicious, but you often have to order ahead.
