I have read all the reviews before writing this. There are truths with the high ratings and low ratings. VRBO owns me no monies and can't wait for Darlene's comeback.
The "Rustic Cabin" is good for large groups. Not really an appropriate place for older adults unless they can climb 3-4 flights of stairs everyday in altitude. I am from Colorado so the altitude did not bother me.
Yes there is a fully stocked kitchen but not enough towels to clean up. The stove/oven was not clean, so when we turned it on it smoked pretty bad.
The bedroom sizes are good. They provided one small towel and one facial towel per person. Had to make your own bed. Not a big deal. Blanket had holes in it. No towels in the bathroom, so when guests wash their hands after going to the bathroom, they are using your towel to dry off.
There is a large deck in the front and back. Regarding the back deck; There were plastic chairs to sit on, but four of the chairs were broken. The deck was extremely dirty. We had to use a hose to clean off the deck, tables and chairs to sit out there. There is also a small bbq grill. It was also dirty and I had to clean someone's mess before I could even use it. It's about mid-size, so if you do bbq, you'll have to cook in shifts for a larger group. Back deck not very scenic. There is a junk yard or something above the property and a view of old rusted out cars lined the top.
One review said there were exposed screws/nails on the railing. That was very true because my 90 year old mother cut her hand on one of them. Also one step was broken in half.
We didn't call Darlene about it because we had called her twice already about an electrical plug not working and the family member staying in that room had to move because they had a C-PAP machine. Darlene said to check the breaker box. We did and there was nothing wrong. Then said we must be using too many fans. It was over 100 degrees in the cabin. No one's fault about the heat.
We also called her to let her know that we found a live scorpion at the bottom of the stairs (WATCH YOUR STEP). She basically said, well it is the forest and there are scorpions in them." Honestly, I have been going the the mountains in California and Colorado and have never seen a scorpion. Based on Darlene's responses, why would I call her again about the stairs.
Regardless of my review about the property, it the people that make the fun not the property and we did have a good time.
