We were so pleased at every turn through this amazingly updated country farmhouse and peaceful, private property. We had the place to ourselves. It was what we were looking for and more. Hosts have done an excellent job with updates and remodeling - bathroom is beautiful, modern. Kitchen has modern conveniences. New paint and remodeling has been well-done to preserve some of the vintage touches - door handles, trim, etc. We enjoyed the message the hosts left with the chocolates and though we aren't coffee drinkers, appreciated the set-up and coffee provided. Also enjoyed our evenings at the campfire under the stars. So quiet, with no neighbors in sight. Firestarter and light-stick were provided along with some wood, flashlight and comfortable seats near the fire. Access to the Route 66 bike trail is right there at the property. We enjoyed biking this trail and were able to leave right from the house and jump on the trail. We also did a peaceful morning walk on the trail. Breakfast and coffee on the spacious front porch with gorgeous original wood ceiling, overlooking the woods and listening to the birds, was just the thing we needed to ease into the day. This place is close in proximity to Cook's Forest, about 15-20 min for hiking and kayaking/canoeing; we were back and forth several times and felt it was an easy drive and convenient. We suggest maybe a couple of places to hang clothes or towels or to put things, especially if there are more than two people staying. The hosts are very kind and warm and willing to help with ideas for activities in the area (we spoke at check-in), but they let us enjoy our peace & quiet during our time there. They also have a couple of bikes available for use on the trail. They have really done a lot of work to make this a wonderful place for couples, friends, families to rest and relax and/or take in the outdoor activities of the region.
