Title: Disappointing Stay at RIU Ocho Rios
Rating: 1/5
My recent stay at the RIU in Ocho Rios was a significant letdown. The check-in process was painfully slow, taking around 2 hours due to the reception staff's lack of efficiency and apparent prioritization of chatting over attending to guests. Each check-in seemed to take 30-45 minutes, and the customer service desk was largely unmanned and ineffective.
The room itself showed signs of wear, with cracks in the walls, insufficient outlets, and air conditioning that was set too low. The cleanliness was also questionable, with sand in the sheets. I had to request assistance multiple times, and even then, issues weren't resolved. The broken ice machine on my floor was never fixed, and the front desk's response was dismissive.
The food was average but repetitive, although the buffet and restaurant staff were courteous. However, the reception staff's rudeness and dismissiveness overshadowed any positives. With many new staff members, it seemed like they were still getting the hang of things.
Given my 25 years of traveling to Jamaica and staying at various resorts, this experience stands out as the most unpleasant. I wouldn't recommend this hotel and won't be returning.
