Great stay 10 minutes from Hawaii Volcanoes NP

Elaine and Carter’s studio was perfect for my wife and I when visiting Volcanoes NP and Hilo. We spent I full day and 3 evenings in the National Park and 1 day exploring the beaches and waterfalls near Hilo. The studio was clean, well appointed and gated. Elaine and Carter were friendly and welcoming. We will definitely stay there again in our next visit!

Beautiful

Great location for our visit to Volcano National Park . It also worked out very well for our time we spent in the Hilo area. Very quiet and nice cabin. We would stay again if we come back in the future. I will be recommending this property to family and friends.

A perfect stay for visiting the volcano!!

This property is a great place to sleep at night if you are visiting the volcano. Super close location to the volcano and the host are great at recommending places to go and explore! I was able to start hiking very early(like 5am early), worth it to see the stars and sunrise!! You are also in close range to many beaches in the area!

convenient location, charmng studio

Elaine was always prompt with responding to our emails and was friendly and helpful when we arrived. The charming studio was decorated for Christmas and had everything we needed (but don't plan on preparing food--very limited kitchenette). Unfortunately the weather wasn't cooperative--raining, cool, very windy at Volcano, and we woke up to fog and drizzle in the morning--so we decided to stay only one night rather than the two that we had booked. The only negative is that the property is adjacent to the highway, and if you are a light sleeper, you will hear traffic noise during the night.

Quaint Studio

Upon our arrival, we were warmly welcomed by Elaine, setting a positive tone for the beginning of our stay. The location is perfect for exploring the park. We would definitely recommend other couples to stay here.

Quaint and Beautiful

The hosts, Carter and Elaine, were very friendly. This place was as advertised and centrally located for the Volcano National Park along with day trips to Hilo and south of the island. Great stay!

Cozy Spot Near National Park

We really enjoyed our stay at Carter & Elaine's Fern Studio. Carter welcomed us on arrival and was very helpful and friendly. The studio is a cozy place to stay for a couple nights if you are exploring the national park. We'd definitely stay here again!

Super Unterkunft im Nationalpark !!

Das kleine Häuschen, was früher mal eine Garage war, ist wirklich super. Total schön eingerichtet und hat für einen kürzeren Aufenthalt wirklich alles was man benötigt. Die Lage zum Nationalpark und zu den Einkaufs- und Essensmöglichkeiten ist wirklich perfekt und in wenigen Minuten mit dem Auto erreichbar. Man hat außerdem einen eigenen Parkplatz unter einem Dach was bei dem häufigen Regen wirklich super ist. Die Gastgeber sind wirklich sehr freundlich. Wir sind wärmstens empfangen worden und uns wurden einige Tipps für die Umgebung mitgeteilt. Was wirklich toll ist, ist dass man das Wasser aus der Leitung trinken kann, da die Eigentümer das Regenwasser auffangen und aufbereiten. Wirklich ausgezeichnet. Ich würde jeder Zeit wieder herkommen. Absolutes Schmuckstück !!!

Fern Studio was amazing!

I can't say enough good about this rental. The studio itself is well thought out with everything that you need and something you didn't know you needed. The bed is comfy and you can tell that the owners take great pride in the experience. It was great to be able to meet with Carter and Elaine and they are incredibly nice and welcoming hosts. We enjoyed the sounds of the rainforest as well as Rolan Da Rooster, while using the fern studio as our base to explore Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The only downside we found is that we had to leave, but would absolutely stay again if/when we return to the big island. Thanks for providing one of our favorite places to stay in all of our travels!

This was our first time renting a property instead of booking a hotel, and they were the most pleasant people to rent with. Elaine saw that we bought wine, but didn’t have glasses and brought us some nice crystal for the trip. They were cordial in asking if we needed laundry done, and places to visit on the island. We loved it here and definitely would come back.

Welcoming studio close to the Volcano park!

The hosts were so kind, welcoming us in person and showing us around the studio. It's outfitted with so many little niceties, like coffee and travel cups, plates and utensils, and quality toiletries. Only a short drive to Hilo and even shorter to the park. Our only complaint was the bed. If you are used to a foam or spring mattress, just know that this is more of a futon cushion.

1st stay with VRBO. Please managers communicate before calling in a violation

Hi. I don't wish to take away from the graciousness of the Gentleman property manager who greeted us upon arrival. Additionally the place was lovely and clean, I really liked it. However car trouble occurred on the way and a friend came to my rescue. He had a small dog. We arrived very late, in the dark. We offered to park his car off the premise with dog in it (my car was going to have to be towed). The reason we offered to the Gentleman who greeted us to park the car with dog off premise is on account of the no dog rule. Gentleman said it was fine to have the dog in the car within the gate, or even standing next to the car as we might need to get him out to walk him to outside the gate to allow him to relieve himself. The next morning Mrs. was very upset. It gave the feeling that she had not communicated with the Gentleman over this detail before calling/reporting a violation on me in to VRBO whereupon a rep ran me down by phone calls/messages insisting the issue be resolved (by the time the phone calls began it had already been resolved). This definitely took away from the day of enjoyment (and finding a solution to our car issue). VRBO rep was difficult to reach while trying to return the call, never was able to speak directly with him and no one else at VRBO seemed able to take the message that the Gentleman and Mrs. had not communicated. Its okay, we didn't want a problem over it but left the dog in the car overnight off the premise on night two. This was my first ever experience with VRBO. I am a frequent traveler worldwide, always able to be friendly with host and not at all used to being treated this way by my host or agency. The Gentleman met me but the Mrs did not, she met only my friend. It would have been helpful for her to speak with me directly (I am the one who booked the reservation) or her husband for clarification before calling in a violation to the agency. In that way it could have been handled far better and not make me feel like my first review with VRBO has me appear criminal. You are welcome to respond to this VRBO. I did not save the messages but believe the representative's name was Eric.

Cozy mountain getaway

Great location (5 minutes from Volcano national park, 25 minutes from Hilo). Clean. Fridge, microwave and full bathroom in unit. Friendly property manager. Easy access and check-in process. Perfect for a couple. I would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I loved our stay here. Not only was the place clean, updated, and in a great location, the hosts were incredible! The place is stocked with little essentials that made being there that much better, that much more comfortable. I wish I could give them 10 stars!

Peaceful studio

We loved our stay at the Volcano Studio! It was the perfect place to stay and experience the national park, and the studio was well designed and furnished. We definitely needed a car to explore the area, but Hilo was about a half hour drive away, and there were a number of fun, artsy cafes and shops close by. Elaine and Carter were wonderful hosts, and even left chocolate and fresh water in the fridge for us. The studio was close to the road but very few cars drove by at night and it was very peaceful. We would recommend it to anyone looking to stay near the park!
