We really didn’t enjoy much about this place at all. After 3 nights we were more than ready to leave.
On the plus side:
The host was easy to deal with and was quick to respond when I asked a question about connectivity to the internet.
The inside was basically clean (some dubious smells in certain areas) and the kitchen was equipped sufficiently enough to prepare breakfast. The washing machine is good and worked well.
I’m afraid that’s about all the positive spin I can give.
The furniture is tired and the green armchairs don’t look clean. My impression is that it has been furnished from various charity shops.
The bed linen is old and needs freshening up. Various cupboards are full of linen and towels. Very little space for your own clothes.
Agree with previous comments in that the shower cubicle is probably the smallest available. (Shower itself worked fine).
Final straw for us was finding a kitchen cupboard infested with ants, a bag of breakfast cereal was alive with them and had to be binned.
Overall, this place just didn’t feel welcoming or homely. After visiting various places in the area, it’s not the sort of place one wants to head back to and relax.
It is low budget, but we’ve stayed in several other places in NZ for a similar price and they don’t bear comparison. Might suit backpackers on a very limited budget and with low expectations, but otherwise I’d suggest considering other options in the Napier area.
