the good - very well appointed kitchen, the best I've ever stayed at. as other reviews describe the kitchen is great with plenty of dish, glass and silver-ware, pots and tools, oil and vinegar, coffee and sugar, blender, bar tools, etc... Bedrooms are large, with good sized closets, beds were comfortable and clean. Bathrooms are decent sized too. Large, handsome dining room and entryway and a couple large sitting rooms if you need them. All was clean.
The bad: the water has a bad sulfur-y flavour, you'll probably want to bring some.
The smoke alarms throughout the house went off in the middle of the night (of course!)(5:00am). I called the numbers listed and was only able to leave a voicemail message after being redirected by the answering service. Most people would have called 911 and been forced outside, into the cold, for who knows how long?! We probably should have too but I have hardwired alarms in my house and so have some experience with this type of system. Not finding a triggering source we figured out that it was probably a malfunctioning smoke detector which we were able to disconnect to stop the alarm. The alarm panel in the entryway was not functioning - the number to call listed on it led to a national monitoring service that suggested that there was no account active for the address - no help there! The response from the property manager took about 2 hours. Glenn eventually came, offered no apologies, reinstalled the offending smoke detector. We had him come back and replace the detector since its lights were flashing differently than the others on the system. We were nervous we would have a replay of the previous night! He came promptly and replaced it with a temporary, non-hardwired detector and also fixed an electrical problem that had killed the power in one of the bathrooms. Our last night was uneventful. There was an apology offered through the vrbo system from the host, but no refund/credit.
The road is somewhat noisy - since the house is on a hill cars with noisier exhaust systems need to work to climb the hill. There are street lights right outside the windows of the 2 front bedrooms and only non-room-darkening shades in the room I stayed in. More light comes into a 3rd bedroom from the library next door.
Only 1 hallway thermostat for the 2nd flloor, with doors all closed the rooms get quite warm before the heat reaches it.
The 4th bathroom is marginal, not en-suite.
