Off the beaten track but town only 6 kms away by car. Towels - only one large and one small per person for the week - although washer and tumble dryer available, and cotton bedlinen. Very old house, including antique door fastenings, but cosy and there are plenty of chairs and sofas to lounge in for that late night beer or coffee. There are some nice grounds to wander, and an area where you can sit and admire a wonderful view across the farms and their fields.
Please note that the bathroom described as toilet and shower only, is not suitable for anyone incapacitated in any way nor for small children left unattended. The shower cubicle is about 8 inches above the floor (pumbing issue I guess) and access is one step up onto a narrow tiled ledge, before another step up into the cubicle.
The central heating in the upstairs rooms is fine, but the ground floor will not heat up until the temperature drops below 20 deg. C. - I guess the upstairs is switched off for the summer, but we arrived mid-Sept. But downstairs was very cold on arrival day, gray with no sun and we had a 93 year old with us who needed to get warm quickly.
Initial arrival was spoilt because of the bizarre behaviour of the housekeeper. I can only manage "I am sorry, I cannot speak French" apart from the usual hello, goodbye and such. Her reply to this was to keep speaking loudly in French and taking me by the arm to show me things and explain them in French. There was no guidance at all on view except the recycling chart in the kitchen., For communication I requested wifi code to use Google translate. This proved most difficult of all. I was given a handwritten (by the housekeeper) code, at least 25 characters which did not match the code on the router. Nothing. Except a continual finger stabbed at the code and "Oui!" repeated. At last, took a chance on a short code, written in another hand which turned out to be the "proper" code. With Google I managed to have a conversation of sorts. So internet access very good but only if you use the correct password.
Information about the house was not offered. By sheer fluke we found, tidied away, a "Directory" with a few English language pages. The only pages about the house were out of date (we found a page describing charges for laundry which we ignored, quite correctly as it happens) and should be updated as they only serve to confuse.
So all in all, a bad start but a good holiday, and a nice place to be.
