We rented this house for two weeks for a family trip - two seniors, two adults, one child. The house is fine. The basement consists of two bedrooms and a bathroom, and is not connected to the upstairs. To get upstairs to the kitchen/living/dining areas, you have to use the staircase on the outside of the house. The setting is lovely, literally staying in the rain forest. The pool is wonderful. The wraparound balcony is also nice to enjoy. It rains a lot, which we were ready for. The no-see-um bugs are vicious. Use bug spray liberally.
We found the beds extremely uncomfortable. I added some blankets with a top sheet to sleep on. This helped a bit. Blackout curtains, which were not present, should be there. The light shines in very early. The neighborhood is off the main drag, which is nice AND takes a little bit of time to get to. The kitchen is fine.
The main concern that we had was that the power went out at 8pm on night 8. At 9am the next morning, we contacted the host, deciding to cancel the remainder of our trip. My dad and husband sleep with CPAP machines and didn’t get any sleep, and an entire refrigerator worth of food was wasted. Yvonne allowed us to cancel, and refunded us for the remaining 6 nights. She said that power outages are normal for PR, especially after the 2017 hurricanes, but every other house on the street had power. If outages are normal, I question the decision to not get a generator or solar panels so that electricity stays on for guests.
