We chose this property because of the location and water access, as well as the updated interior in pictures. Overall, it was a fine place to sleep and use as a home base, but we wouldn’t have wanted to spend much time there (thankfully the weather was nice enough to be on the water most of our stay).
We were disappointed when we walked in to find the condo more worn than pictured. Things I wish I would have known:
1. There was no air conditioning - we made it work with the 3 box fans provided.
2. Bring your own comforter - the bedspreads don’t have washable duvet covers. We were able to cover one with an extra sheet and use our own blankets for the other bed, which had yellow stains on the comforter.
3. We were glad we’d brought our own cleaning products. Especially considering that we traveled during a pandemic, the cleanliness was disappointing. Dust on countertops, mold in shower, yellow at base of toilet seat, toothpaste on side of bathroom counter, trash and hair under beds and furniture. We got by with disinfecting spray and Lysol wipes. We tried to vacuum halfway through and found the hose jammed, which is why the carpets looked dirty when we arrived. Ew.
4. The furniture was horribly uncomfortable—all cushions were completely worn down on couch and chairs. The drawers under the second bed didn’t work and bedside lamp wouldn’t turn on.
5. The kitchen was NOT gourmet. There were a minimal number of plates, bowls, and silverware. We bought paper plates so we wouldn’t have to run the dishwasher after every meal. The bottom element in the stove didn’t work, so we weren’t able to bake a birthday cake which was a bummer. The gas grill was rusted and we decided it wasn’t worth using. Bring your own necessities.
6. The listing describes the condo location as waterfront on Lake Pend Oreille, but it’s actually on a river that feeds into Lake Pend Oreille, about a 10 to 15 minute boat ride through a no wake zone to the main lake. It wasn’t a big deal, but it would been helpful to know ahead of time.
7. The property management was not easy to access. We chose not to bring up the above issues during our stay because it would’ve taken too much hunting to find a number to get a hold of anyone (and we were able to make due). There didn’t seem to be anyone locally to contact for help, just a property management company located out of town.
Overall, it was a decent place to stay that is close to town, but we’ll probably look elsewhere.
