My wife and I stayed here for a long weekend in May 2021. The property is beautiful, filled with horse stables, large fields, and an amazing array of colorful flowers. The ranch is only a fifteen-minute walk to downtown Los Olivos, though crossing the busy highway 154 on foot can be a challenge. Our host, Chris, recommended taking the back streets rather than walking down the highway and this worked well. The best part of this rental is how close it is to everything.
The guesthouse was private, quiet, and clean. The enclosed backyard is perfect for children or pets. There’s a large comfortable bed in the bedroom and a pull-out couch in the living room. The bathroom has a bathtub and the best water pressure. Seriously, that shower is amazing for washing off after a long hike. The wifi worked well and we had no issues streaming movies to our iPad. Likewise, the Apple TV with numerous streaming apps will keep anyone entertained. Just a heads up, there’s no microwave, so any cooking must be done on the stovetop. The best perk was the bottle of Syrah Chris provided while checking in. So delish!
If you’re interested in hiking, I suggest heading up Figueroa Mountain Road a half hour to the Los Padres National Forest. The paved mountain road was easy enough to navigate with our little Prius, so four-wheel drive isn’t necessary. We hiked the La Jolla Trail to the Ballard Camp (2 hours) and the Davy Brown trail (4 hours). Both were inverse hikes where you start going down and the return uphill. The mountain views were spectacular and not to be missed.
Overall, this rental is perfect for a weekend escape filled with wine, hiking, and sunshine!!!
