This was a property that was either loved or hated, according to the reviews.
I would like to bring a more measured view. Both my partner and myself were looking forward to staying at this property. The uniqueness of the location and the eccentricity of the property sparked our interest.
Our initial view was mixed, a lot of detritus around the property, with a feeling that it was unsafe. After spending some time there, we were charmed by the eccentricity of the house. Yet, the longer we spent in the house, the more it felt that the selling of the property of it being 'eccentric' was hiding a simple lack of investment. The property needs serious investment to bring it back to its original glory.
It was trying too hard to be charming and eccentric... but holes in the ceiling, a tub that had seen better days, mice and other fauna finding home inside, random ratty shoes being left around and broken windows, stretched the definition of 'charm' and 'eccentricity'. My partner liked it, his comment was, "at least there was a modern toilet, and we were not doing our business in a hole in the floor. " This summed up the stay.
Would I recommend it? Not sure... for one night, maybe. If you are fit enough to negotiate the 30 steps up from the parking bay.
But if you are planning on spending more than one night, maybe look for another place. Or be prepared to accept that 'run-down' does not mean 'charming' or 'eccentric.'
