My in-laws have been telling us for years how wonderful Mackinac Island and the surrounding area are. So when we flew out to visit them, we wanted to work in some time in Michigan. This listing was perfectly sized for our party of eight: one set of grandparents, my wife, me, and our 4 kids aged 5-10, and everyone loved the house and all of its ammenities. Our boys play hockey and were delighted to find the house had an air hockey table! The back porch was perfect for outdoor dining and the fire pit was perfect for s’mores and spooky stories. The house is a close walk to St. Ignace’s downtown and the lighthouse. In addition to being close to ferry terminals to get to Mackinac Island, the house isn’t too far from Tahquamenon Falls, the Great Lakes Shipwreck museum, or even a trip across the bridge to Mackinaw City and all the things to do over there. The house was clean, had pretty much all of the amenities we could have hoped for, and there was plenty of firewood in supply. All bedrooms are on the second level. The stairs to the second level were reported as “steep,” but my in-laws are in their 70’s. But points for the solid bannister and stair rail that helped out a good bit. The kids found the circa 1880’s creaky floors highly entertaining, particularly in the morning. All things considered, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would totally stay here again. We highly recommend it for anyone looking to explore the UP.
