Wonderful stay, but…

Before you jump to conclusions and think this is a negative review - it’s not, we had a GREAT time, and it really is an excellent house and location, however there are a few things to bear in mind…It’s not clear from the listing that the room with the bunk beds is on the ground floor and not accessible from inside the house.While this house is near the pier, it’s also near the pier, which means ALL of the day-trip traffic to the beach will result in high density of crowds. Bear this in mind.The pictures on the listing are a little out of date - the owners have done some noticeable upgrades and touch-up’s and it looks much nicer than some of the older photos show!If you plan to use a Neso or similar style canopy - forget it - you’re gonna have to walk 3 rows down to be able to use it. Shibumi’s are fine, as are regular umbrellas. Just know this and be prepared.Bring your own knives. The ones in the house are about as sharp as an 80 year old politician.Bring your own reuse-able containers. The listing says there are some there - nope.The beach toy closet is FULL of useful toys - don’t bring any sand toys or chairs or carts unless you just want or need them. This was by far the best asset of this property - really well thought out!Check doors and windows when you come in, the cleaning crew left a few open and some of the sliding doors on the rear of the house stick a little and can let hot air in.

When we booked, we were concerned about the size of the house and rooms, but we were very pleased that there was plenty of room and many beds for our large group. The oceanfront location and oceanfront decks are spectacular. I would give a five, but there were several items in need of repair, but they didn't signicantly affect our stay. We would definitely stay here again and again.

Family reunion

We had a family reunion. We had 11 adults staying at the house four families that worked out great. The house was beautiful on the beach just like they said the amenities were perfect. The kitchen was well stocked with very good quality things to cook with. Also had plenty of beach accessories sometimes you don’t find those things when you rent houses, but they said they were going to be there and they were there.

Cozy beach house located as close to the beach as you can get

Property was perfect for 8 adults and 4 children. Located just outside the beach sand dunes with beach access boardwalk running along side property. Host was very accommodating with any concerns or issues we had (only one minor issue that was remedied a.s.a.p.) and is a place I would definately stay again for that group size. I could not have been any happier with the property.

Cleanest house EVER!!!

Lovely home that was obviously well cared for…everyone was comfortable there. Downstairs bedroom smelled mildewey but I imagine bedrooms on ground floors oceanfront have that problem regularly.

Sweet spot

Never been to Sunset Beach before and this was the perfect spot to get acquainted with the area. Convenient to pier and public access. House was clean and kitchen was well equipped. We like to cook and Bill's seafood was a great resource. Great supply of games and beach equipment. Loved the screen porch and open deck. Excellent beach house!

Great Time

You cannot beat the beach access from this house, and sitting on the balcony/screened porch with the cool ocean breeze blowing was our absolute favorite. Our combined families of 12 people slept very comfortably here, and the kitchen was the most well-stocked of any VRBO we’ve been to. Thermostat broke while we were there, and property maintenance man had it replaced the same day we called. Would definitely stay again.

Great Place

The house was a great size for our family of 10 adults and kids. Best feature was the GREAT screened porch. It was big, well-furnished and well-shaded all day long. I love to cook and the kitchen was furnished much better than most rentals with utensils, cutting boards and good-quality cookware, The beach area was very nice as well. Not too crowded, a gentle slope good for the kids, and fine firm sand great for bike-riding. I would definitely recommend and return!

Great week!

We loved every minute of our stay at The Grey Dolphin. The house was clean and comfortable. We especially loved the porch for sitting and listening to the crashing waves. It was peaceful and exactly the type of vacation we were looking for.

Great location and familt time!

Great location

We spent a great week at the Grey Dolphin. The proximity to the beach is great. The kitchen is well stocked. We prepared several dinners and it had everything I needed. We were 6 adults and there was plenty of room. The beds were comfortable. Any inquiry I had was quickly answered. We loved the outdoor shower for rinsing off after a hot, sandy day at the beach.

Amazing stay!

This house was perfect for our 2-family vacation. Everything was spotless on check-in, and the appliances all seemed new. I texted the owner a couple of times with minor questions, and the response time was almost immediate. The location is perfect, right on the beach access and a very short walk to the shops and the pier. We especially enjoyed Sunset Slush for the best Italian Ice I've ever had, and the Island Market has great T-shirts, basic grocery items, and super-friendly people working there. We even met Chikka, the owner's adorable rescue dog. The house is extremely-well-equipped for vacationers. Beach toys, chairs, umbrella, and cart are provided, making the walk down to the beach a lot easier. There's a place to rinse your feet when you come up from the beach, and there's also a fully-enclosed outdoor shower with excellent water pressure. The screened porch was amazing, and we watched a beautiful thunderstorm from it one night. The attention to detail inside the house was also wonderful, with boxes of Kleenex in every room, a nightlight in each bathroom, and a fully stocked first aid kit in the living room. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need, including brand-new oven mitts and salt and pepper. I really liked the way laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, dish soap, hand soap, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner were all provided. This is definitely one of the best houses I've ever rented, and I highly recommend it!

Sunset Beach Get A Way

Overall it was as very good experience. The property is as listed. GREAT location on the beach. The house is immediately adjacent to the beach path so you are as close as you can be to the water - less than a one minute walk. There is a convince store, coffee bar and ice cream store that are a two minute walk from the property. All of the amenities on the property were as advertised and worked as promised. Our party did find some of the signage in the house off-putting. Many items are tagged with the cost if lost or damaged - Beach Chair, $60 if missing, SpikeBall, $40 if missing. We understand that missing or damaged items will need to be replaced by the renters but it does smack of a college spring break house rather than the family vacation that we took.

Wonderful location and perfect house for a family

We loved our time at this house! It was a perfect layout for a family, including a separate entrance for the downstairs bedroom that gave that person more privacy. The beach was just a short walk and the house is also close to entrance road to the bridge, where there was an ice cream shop, perfect for the kids. The hosts were great at communicating and very responsive to questions. We’ll definitely be back!
