Just what we needed
The house was just what we needed! The beds are a little smaller than expected, but if I had read more closely when booking I would have noticed the sizes. We loved the nook upstairs and the stained glass windows. Kitchen is clean and pretty well stocked with whatever you may need to cook. There did appear to be an ant problem, but only on top of the fridge. Beach access is close-the closest access is very steep, but luckily there are more access points just a little further down the street that aren’t as steep. There’s a little backyard space perfect for walking your dog if you brought them. Hot tub was lovely to relax in each night. Something to be aware of-this rental is through Vacasa, which wasn’t the best experience. They expected me to do the brunt of cleaning before departing, which felt wrong considering there’s a cleaning fee when booking. They also didn’t wait for us to leave the house before sending over someone to clean the hot tub. It was very startling to look outside the bedroom and see someone I didn’t know on the deck right there, and we were then blocked in by their vehicle. It was a bummer to end vacation on such a note.

Great Location
Positives: Location is great, house was as described and clean. Negatives: Beds are very firm, we could not check in until 5PM. All in all this is a great place and I would recommend.

Could have been cleaner and had ants in kitchen, plus one shower drain was clogged that we fixed. Not bad place. Good location/proximity to beach! Multiple decks and hot tub were nice for enjoying outdoors!

Arrived to a filthy house with the door open and a bird inside. Food was still in the refrigerator. After repeated calls to management, we received little help. Had one clean towel for six people. Horrible experience!

Family Vacation
Listing was very accurate. Home was pretty clean. Kitchen well stocked, nice outdoor shower snd close to beach. Dunes were extremely steep and hot!! Nothing rondo in area (we were informed). Also I suggest everyone shop prior to getting to Waves. Not supermarkets within 30 minutes. Also, the markets that are there run out of stock quickly!

Nicely located property near to beach and sound. Well stocked kitchen for cooking. decks are very nice. Out door shower helpful to keep sand down in house. Would stay again.

Great location, nice home
Whale Song is in a great location - in Waves, which is not as far south as Hatteras - and less than 25 yards from the pathway to the beach. (Note: path to the beach does require a rather steep climb over a sandy dune.) Beach here is not crowded. A general store and a couple of restaurants are just a short drive away. Note the closest real grocery store is in Avon, though - about 25 minutes away. Home is a typical beach cottage - very small bedrooms and bathrooms, although bathrooms appear to have been updated. However, the upstairs family/living/dining/kitchen area is spacious and the vaulted ceiling makes it seem even bigger. There's plenty of comfortable seating for everyone. Hot tub on the second level deck is shaded from the sun, which is nice, and small table on deck outside the kitchen is a nice place to eat dinner outside in the shade. Biggest issue we had was ants in the kitchen, which despite three phone calls to Hatteras Realty, was not treated during our stay. Lots of crumbs were left on kitchen floor and in toaster. (Note: while this is on VRBO, you will be dealing with Hatteras Realty once you make a reservation.) Kitchen also doesn't have a pantry or anywhere to put food. Too many kitchen supplies take up too much space in the cabinets - not sure anyone's going to make a bundt cake on vacation! Overall, highly recommend the location and the home, but don't recommend the property manager.

Don't rent thru Hatteras Realty!
Great property but repetitive inconsistencies in check-in/ check-out, dirty unit, and finally gaining e-check-in only to begin getting booted- out at 9am day of departure.....totally against the contract. whats worse, money hungry, unresolving staff...sad.

First time renter.. we had a few problems ...
Rental agreement wasn’t clear about the property having a gas grill... Rule #7- renter can only use the gas grill provided by owner which would lead one to think that a gas grill was at the property....Blown circuits the first day, air conditioning problems the second day... Realty company was very good about fixing the problems though ... maybe lighted candles on the bottom level to combat the mosquitos and even cut the knee high grass ...

We enjoyed our stay although the refrigerator and freezer had a really bad odor which made our food we bought smell. Smelled like someone had unplugged the fridge and left the doors closed for awhile. Supposed to leave doors open if fridge is unplugged.

Whale song stay
Great location, house was perfect for our family and the rental process was easy. Only con is there were ants on the top floor the next day after we occupied the house. We were sure to keep the kitchen clean, but if some food was left out more than an 30mins, there were ants.

Great location, clean house, nice views ~ comfortable vacation spot! Nice deck for sun and stars!
I stayed here in late Sept / early Oct ~ the first floor has several bedrooms, all good size and 2 restrooms. The upstairs is a nice open floor plan w high ceilings, lots of windows and spacious kitchen. The deck off the upstairs level wraps around 3 sides of the house. Great for sun or stars. This is a very nice for a family, a couple or just a single person w their dog who wants to get away. Comfy furniture ~ very nice home.

Very nice house within easy walking distance to beach!
We really enjoyed our stay! The house was very well kept, with a really nice open common area on the top floor. The entrance to the beach was about 100 yards from the driveway, so it was just a couple minutes walking to get out to the beach. The town had a few small grocery stores within 5 minutes driving, which had most of what you'd need for a week stay (including a good beer and wine selection). All in all, we had a great time and would definitely recommend this place! Thanks!

Nice place and convenient to the ocean
We enjoyed our stay and the home we rented. We had a couple of exceptions, the fridge ice maker did not work which was a bit of a hassle and the upper deck furniture is very weathered and wobbly. We would have also enjoyed more comfortable couches. These were the only negatives from a nice vacation stay.

Whale Song, truly a song.....
Great ocean views, great location! Kitchen fully stocked. Hot tub looked new & clean. Bathrooms were nice & updated. Our first time visiting Waves. Hatteras Realty was awesome & very nice people to work with, very friendly. Worked out great for our family & our needs! Thank you for a fantastic stay! Def. recommend Hatteras & Whale Song

Whale Song was lovely
Whale song was a lovely home. I would have given 5 stars but the lot next door was a swamp, the bugs ate us up. The house it's self was simply but tastefully furnished. It was a short walk to the beach and the view from the top deck was decent. I wouldn't recommend this house for someone that has any physical or health concerns that you are not able to walk alot of stairs. Overall a great experience for our little family.

Beautiful home
Beautiful home, close to the beach. Beach access is less than 200 feet away. You are close enough to the beach to see it and hear the waves crashing without paying the ocean front price! The house offers great cookware and newer appliances as well as recent remodeling to the bathrooms. The only negative I had was that the cleaners left empty drink bottles under the furniture in the living room. I will recommend this house to anyone looking for a place to have a great vacation stay!
