Early in the morning, the car will pick you up from wherever you’re staying in Tbilisi. Cycling starts from Akhaltsikhe castle ruins (new castle in translation) through the old Kartli region villages 50 km west from Tbilisi. Route goes up stream of Tedzami river. After crossing a little narrow wooden bridge you’ll pass magnificent Drisi Castle hanging from above. Back on the road you'll follow river and cross it several times before entering Algeti National Park. Algeti National Park is located in the Tetritskaro district. It comprises the southern slopes of the eastern area of Trialeti mountain range in the Algeti river gorge and is located at an altitude of 1,100-1,950 m above sea level.
Cross one more water stream and you'll find yourself in Rkoni village. This is where the road ends and the route follows a trail to the ancient Rkoni monastery complex (VII century) and old stone bridge. The monastery was built at first in VII century and during following centuries the architecture of the complex was renovated and changed several times in XIII-XIV and XVII-XVIII cc. You can view Rkoni castle defence wall on the other side of canyon.
On the way back, the route follows a different path, ascending to low Green mountain pass (1030m). From the highest point one can find beautiful views over the river Mtkvari gorge, and in good weather even the high range of Great Caucasus. Afterwards, descend to the ending point of cycling tour. On your way to and from the Rkoni complex you'll be able to admire old churches and remains of fortification buildings.
